Body identified as driver whose truck went into N.C. river

Police have identified the body found by duck hunters earlier this week as that of a driver whose truck plunged off a bridge and into a North Carolina river during a winter storm in December.

The North Carolina Highway Patrol told WRAL-TV that the body of Richard Odell White Jr., 29, of Elizabethtown was found Jan.19 near a boat landing near Kinston. He was a driver for Pinky & Son of Chadbourn.

White’s truck hit guardrails on a U.S. 70 bridge before plunging into the Neuse River near Kinston. Divers searched several days for the trucker’s body.
