Truck driver shot in road rage incident on I-75

A truck driver was shot Thursday night on Interstate 75 in Florida in what police say was an incidence of road rage.

The Marion County Sheriff’s Office officials said they received a call about the incident at 10:30 p.m. According to the department, a section of northbound I-75 near the State Road 200 exit in Ocala was being repaired, causing traffic to slow down.

Sheriff’s department officials said the 2014 Freightliner was in the inside lane having just cleared the construction zone at the 66th Street overpass when a sport utility vehicle drove beside the truck in the emergency lane. The trucker told police he heard a loud “pop” and thought he had blown a tire.

In reality, several shots were fired from the SUV. One of the rounds shattered the passenger side window and struck the driver’s arm, according to police. He was able to pullover and call 911.

The male truck driver suffered a non-life threatening injury to his left arm. He was taken to a local hospital for treatment., according to police who did not release the name of the driver.
