Nominations for the 2019 Transition Trucking: Driving for Excellence award open Tuesday, March 19, and will remain open through June 25. The award recognizes top rookie military veteran truck drivers and is a partnership between Kenworth, Fastport and the U.S. Chamber of Commerce Foundation’s Hiring Our Heroes initiative.

The winner will be chosen by a panel of judges and will receive a fully-loaded Kenworth T-680. The top 10 finalists will be announced July 23. The top three finalists will be announced Aug. 22-23 during the Great American Trucking Show in Dallas. Public voting will run Oct. 1 – Nov. 1, and the winner will be announced Dec. 6 at the U.S. Chamber of Commerce.

To qualify for the program, drivers must be a military veteran or a current or former member of the National Guard or Reserves and must have graduated from a PTDI-certified or NAPFTDS or CVTA member driver training school and be a current CDL holder. Complete eligibility requirements are detailed on the Transition Trucking site.

Werner Enterprises driver and Army veteran Quinton Ward was last year’s award winner.
