A 31-year-old trucker from Ohio faces multiple charges after an accident Thursday afternoon, July 9, on Interstate 70 in Indiana claimed the lives of four children and sent a man to the hospital with serious injuries.

Corey Withrow, 31, from Camden, Ohio is facing four counts of reckless homicide; four counts of operating a vehicle while intoxicated causing death and one count of operating a vehicle while intoxicated causing serious bodily injury.

Indiana State Police report Withrow’s 2004 Kenworth failed to slow in a construction zone on eastbound I-70 just west of the Cambridge City exit and slammed into the back of a car driven by Aaron Bruce, 34, Kansas City, Missouri, driving into the back of another tractor-trailer. Bruce survived the crash but four children in his vehicle died at the scene.

A statement from the state police said the preliminary criminal investigation by the Wayne County Sheriff’s Department indicates that drugs were a contributing factor in causing the crash.

Withrow was injured in the crash and resulting fire. The driver of the other tractor-trailer was uninjured.
