The Massachusetts State Police is seeking the public's assistance in identifying the truck driver involved in a hit and run accident Wednesday, June 16 that injured one of their officers.

The MSP posted to its Facebook page:

At 10:29 a.m. a Massachusetts State Police Lieutenant was sideswiped by a tractor-trailer on Route 495 north in Hopkinton, prior to the Massachusetts Turnpike exit. The truck did not stop and fled the scene. The Lieutenant, who is assigned to the MSP Traffic Programs Section, was outside of his cruiser checking on another tractor-trailer that was stopped on the side of the road when the oncoming tractor-trailer struck him and his cruiser. The lieutenant suffered injuries to his arm and hands and was transported to UMass Medical Center in Worcester.

We continue to seek the tractor-trailer that struck the lieutenant and his cruiser. It has a blue cab and white trailer. We believe the truck’s make is Freightliner, and may be from a model year from 1998-2001. The truck may have minor damage to its passenger side, and may have white paint transfer from the cruiser on it (the cruiser was a white unmarked vehicle).

The attached videos and stills show the actual tractor-trailer we are looking for. The footage is from a camera onboard the stopped tractor-trailer that the lieutenant was checking on at the time of the crash.

A follow-up Facebook post by MSP said they had located a second video showing the tractor-trailer involved in the mishap, but still seek the public's assistance.

Anyone with information about the tractor-trailer or its driver is asked to call the State Police-Charlton Barracks at 508-721-4040.
