UPDATE: Wisconsin authorities overnight scaled back estimates of the number of vehicles involved in Thursday's pileup on Interstate 94.

The Wisconsin State Patrol said online that "Several dozen vehicles including, semi-tractor-trailers were involved." Numerous media reports put estimates of more than 100 vehicles.

There were no fatalities, and the WSP said the injuries that were sustained appeared to be non-life-threatening.

Our original story:

Freezing rain appears to have been the cause of a massive pileup on Interstate 94 in Wisconsin this morning, Thursday, Dec. 23.

Authorities say more than 100 vehicles were involved and the interstate is expected to be close for most of the day.

The crash occurred just south of Osseo along westbound I-94 about 25 miles southeast of Eau Clair. Both sides of the interstate were closed to traffic. Multiple injuries have been reported.

Facebook video posted by a motorist shows numerous tractor-trailers involved as well as several vehicles on fire.

Wisconsin State Patrol says they are investigating a number of crashes and runoffs between mile markers 97 and 37 on I-94.
