A 36-year-old trucker from Georgia was hospitalized with injuries after a crash on Interstate 77 in Virginia that led to the cab portion of his rig falling onto Route 58 and the rest of the tractor dangling from the bridge.

The crash occurred Thursday, Aug. 8 near mile marker 14 in Hillsville, Virginia about 65 miles northwest of Winston-Salem, North Carolina.

Virginia State Police said the tractor-trailer driven by Nelson A. Diaz Dieguz from Lawrenceville, Georgia was northbound on I-77 when it struck the guardrail on the right side of the highway. VSP said the collision caused the tractor to separate from the trailer, and fall over the interstate bridge.

The passenger compartment separated from the rest of the tractor and rolled across both lanes of Route 58. It came to a rest along the westbound lane of Route 58.

VSP cited Diaz Dieguz for failure to maintain control of the vehicle.
