A cargo security company is warning that truckers could encounter problems if delivering to data center construction sites.
Overhaul says there is a nationwide day of protest targeting AI data centers scheduled for Saturday, with demonstrations planned in more than 140 cities across 24 states.
While several major data center operators have been identified in protest messaging, there is currently no indication that freight carriers or logistics providers are being directly targeted, according to Overhaul. However, demonstrations may restrict access to data center facilities and create operational disruptions for scheduled deliveries, said Overhaul.
Overhaul said, the primary risk to the supply chain is delivery disruption, which can lead to shipments being exposed to unnecessary risk.If demonstrations persist throughout the day, carriers could experience extended detention times, delivery rescheduling, or hours of service constraints that prevent drivers from completing deliveries as planned.
Although the protests are not expected to target cargo directly, extended staging of loaded trailers can increase security risks, according to Overhaul. High-value technology shipments held in unsecured or improvised locations may become more vulnerable to opportunistic theft, cargo tampering, or other criminal activity.
These risks are compounded if drivers are required to drop trailers due to prolonged delays or HOS limitations, making advance planning essential for shipments destined for affected facilities.
Overhaul suggests drivers should avoid engaging with protesters or attempting to bypass barricades and instead proceed to pre-designated secure staging locations while maintaining communication with dispatch and receiving facilities.
For over the road shipments, any stops made over the protest period should be in well lit, secured areas with trailer doors backed to a solid surface, if possible, while facilities should ensure all security systems are functioning properly.
