autonomous car outraces champion driver

Autonomous car on the racetrack

Much has been written about the dawn of the self-driving truck. Stanford University is speeding ahead on autonomous vehicles with this hot little Audi, which recently outperformed a trained driver. “Shelley” — a modified Audi TTS has successfully beaten amateur touring class champion David Vodden by 0.4 of a second around his own racetrack in Thunderhill Raceway Park in Northern California. With the safety switched off, Shelley can reach speeds up to 120 mph around Thunderhill’s 15 unique turns, completing the 3-mile course in less than two and a half minutes.
