It’s been a great year so far for country music, and some of its leading women have put out some solid albums. These three albums in particular combine classic country with more contemporary sounds for a listening experience that you’ll love driving to.
1. Brandy Clark’s “Big Day in a Small Town“
Brandy Clark is known for the edginess she brings to her country music, and when she released this album in June she made sure it reflected her style. “The production on the album is edgier and that’s what I hope for, that it does get some play and that it brings people to my music,” she said at the time.
2. Loretta Lynn’s “Full Circle“
This album was Loretta Lynn’s first in 10 years. The 83-year-old Lynn released “Full Circle” back in March with 14 total songs. She drew on her personal memories for inspiration, putting her recollections into song. When Sony contacted her about doing a new album, she already had 97 songs written and told them, “Y’all come and just pick out the ones you want.”
3. Jennifer Nettles’ “Playing With Fire“
Nettles released “Playing With Fire,” her second solo album, back in May. She described it as “a ton of sass and emotion and fire.” The album has 12 songs total, including the country music charts-topping single “Unlove You.”
