Woman exits number two spot at FMCSA

A woman who had a long career in trucking associations who became one of the Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration’s top deputies has been replaced.

Deputy Administrator Cathy Gautreaux is being replaced by Alan Hanson, deputy chief of staff for Transportation Secretary Elizabeth Chao, according to a report in Politico.

Gautreaux joined FMCSA in late 2017 as the agency’s second-ranking official after spending almost 30 years as executive director of the Louisiana Motor Transport Association. Politico said she is going to work at the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration.

Before joining the Department of Transportation in July of last year, Hanson served in Justice Department’s Office of Justice Programs. Before that, Hanson spent more than eight and a half years as chief of staff and general counsel for Senator Richard Shelby (R-Alabama) and before that more than three and a half years as legislative director for the Senator Jeff Sessions (R-Alabama), according to his biography on LinkedIn.

Hanson will now oversee day-to-day operations of more than 1,100 employees located in its Washington, D.C., headquarters, four regional service centers, 52 divisional offices and 31 field units.
