Come Jan. 1, communities in a portion of California important to the trucking industry must have in place specific routes for truckers to follow to the many warehouses.
The law passed and signed late last years requires those routes throughout the state's Inland Empire, the sprawling metropolitan area east of Los Angeles and home to an estimated 4,000 warehouses taking up 1 billion square feet of space. The routes were mandated to reduce truck traffic, noise, pollution and congestion in communities in Riverside and San Bernardino counties.
