Ready for a surprise?

One state is converting a rest area on a busy interstate into one only for tractor-trailers. A rest stop on eastbound Interstate 4 in Longwood, Florida will close to motorists and become a trucks-only facility as part of a larger construction project.

Work on the rest stop, which is located about two miles north of State Road 434, was set to begin Tuesday, Feb. 18.

The change is to accommodate the creation of a stormwater pond to be built for a new eastbound I-4 auxiliary lane, according to the Florida Department of Transportation. The new lane will stretch from the end of the I-4 Ultimate project to west of Lake Mary Boulevard.

FDOT officials said they don’t expect any changes to the truck parking area or the use of the facility for truck drivers.

Rest stops are also available at exit 92 at State Road 436, State Road 434 at exit 94, Lake Mary Boulevard at exit 98, County Road 46A at exit 101A and State Road 46 at exit 101C.
