Christmas Music Showdown: vote for your favorites!

christmas songs

With apologies to radio stations that play all Christmas music all the time, 24/7, year ’round, on and on, non-stop, THIS is the real — only? — time of year when such songs reign supreme.

From the ridiculous (Grandma Got Run Over By A Reindeer) to the sublime (Silent Night), Christmas music comes in all shapes and sizes performed by everyone from the Mormon Tabernacle Choir to a group of barking dogs. We all have our favorite carols, and now, we want to find out which one is yours.

Between now and Christmas Eve, we’ll be conducting a Christmas Music Showdown during which you get to  decide which of 100 great holiday tunes is the best.

We start today posting 20 songs in each of five categories:

  • Sacred Carols
  • Country Christmas Songs
  • Pop Christmas Songs
  • Rock Christmas Songs
  • Novelty Christmas Songs

Over the next week, you get to vote and in a week we’ll post the five favorites in each category. And, of course, you get to vote again.

Then, just before Christmas. we’ll post the top vote-getters in each category, and the you decide the overall winner, the best-loved Christmas song of all.

Feel free to use the “Comments” box below to tell us why you like a song or what you think of Christmas music in general.

Throughout the Christmas Music showdown we’ll post videos of some of the tunes as well as a quiz or two about the season.

Let the voting begin!
