Steep Canyon Rangers: New bluegrass tunes on ‘Radio’

Steep Canyon Rangers

Steep Canyon Rangers, a bluegrass sextet that got its start during student days at the University of North Carolina, just delivered its 11th album, “Radio.” A followup to the band’s successful live collaboration with actor/banjo player Steve Martin and Edie Brickell, the new collection contains 12 all original cuts. Graham Sharp, the band’s singer and banjo player, said on its website, “‘Radio’ travels the dial from top to bottom. The album tunes into the rock channel for a little while, then the blues, then country, pop and, of course, bluegrass.” Steep Canyon Rangers’ personnel includes Woody Platt (guitar), Sharp (banjo), Charles R. Humphrey III (bass), Mike Guggino (mandolin), Nicky Sanders (fiddle) and Mike Ashworth (box kit). “Radio” is available on the band’s website for $15.
