Strongmen/women pull truck to benefit veterans

A 2007 Western Star tractor helped raise about $3,000 to help veterans in need.

The Combat Veterans Motorcycle Association Chapter 27-5 hosted a charity truck pull Sept. 19 in Gloucester, Va., featuring the 26,000-pound Western Star truck.

The event raised money for and awareness of the chapter’s veterans needing assistance.

“In the strongman community the most impressive thing to watch is a human being pulling a heavy vehicle, and this event usually brings in the biggest crowds,” said Dustin Buterbaugh, the public relations representative for CVMA Chapter 27-5.

Nineteen male and female competitors participated. Male competitors pulled the Western Star while female competitors pulled a Ford F-350 pickup and also took on the Western Star in exhibition pulls. Every competitor pulled the Western Star the full length of 75 feet.

Buterbaugh said they consider the event a success and plan to stage another one in the Spring, possibly with a bigger truck.
