Truckers pulling into the Interstate 94 West weigh station near Mapleton, North Dakota earlier this week were greeted by dozens of people there to say thank you as part of National Truck Driver Appreciation Week.

Drivers were greeted with a lunch of a foot-long sub sandwich, water and a bag of chips. Organizers say 250 lunches were given out. Some 45 companies contributed to make the free meals possible.

“Our truck drivers are the backbone of America,” Kelly Krapu, a member of the board of directors at the FM Transportation Club, told KVRR. “They are what keeps the supply chain going and we are so appreciative of everything that they do day in and day out.”
