The Indiana Department of Transportation is reporting that I-74 near the Ohio/Indiana border is closed in both directions because of two separate pileups, one on each side of the highway near St. Leon.

Media reports say more than 40 vehicles are involved, including several tractor/trailers, in the accidents at mile marker 168.

Winter weather may have been the cause of the two pileups.

Six people are said to have been injured, but no fatalities were reported by Indiana State Police.

According to a report by WAVE television, there were 28 vehicles involved in one crash and 12 in the others.

The I-74 accident occurred about 10:45 a.m. Meanwhile, another major chain-reaction accident on I-70 near Richmond, Ind. closed that highway’s westbound lanes for much of the day.
