If you drive the Pennsylvania Turnpike, you’ll need more money to do so starting early net year.

This latest toll increase, which begins Jan. 8, is the seventh hike in as many years.

The Pennsylvania Turnpike Commission recently announced a 6 percent toll increase for both E-ZPass and cash-paying travelers. Drivers of Class 8, five-axle trucks traveling from the Ohio entrance to the New Jersey exit will see an E-ZPass increase from $231.87 to $245.78, and a cash increase from $322.90 to $342.27.

Class 7 trucks will see E-ZPass increases from $181.19 to $192.06 and cash increases from $252.45 to $267.60, and Class 6 trucks will see an E-ZPass increase from $132.06 to $139.98 and a cash increase from $184.10 to $195.15.

PTC Chairman Sean Logan said the increase “is necessary to pay back the borrowing required to meet the PTC’s funding obligations; rebuilding and widening the PA Turnpike system and providing funding to the commonwealth to support public transportation.”

The Turnpike’s Delaware River Bridge cashless toll plaza will keep its 2016 toll rates.
