America’s biggest truckload carrier is getting bigger.
The Wall Street Journal Friday reported that Phoenix-based Knight-Swift Transportation Holdings Inc. is acquiring Abilene Motor Express of Richmond, Virginia. Terms of the deal, the first since Knight and Swift merged about a year ago, were not disclosed.
The Journal said Abilene has some 400 trucks and about $100 million in annual revenue.
Commercial Carrier Journal’s Top 250 ranking listed Swift as the third largest carrier in the U.S. and Knight 25th. It listed Swift with 18,366 trucks; 64,066 trailers and 22,903 drivers. CCJ said Knight has 4,547 trucks, 12,367 trailers and 4,490 drivers.
