FedEx drivers win big at Oregon championship

FedEx Freight driver Chris Outen is the Oregon Truck Driving Championship grand champion for the second year in a row. He also won first place in the Sleeper Berth class.

Ronald Zieser, a FedEx Freight driver named Rookie of the Year, had an impressive first showing. He won first place in the 3-Axle class and also won the award for Best Pre-Trip Inspection.

FedEx drivers won in the majority of the main categories, with the exception of the Team Trophy which went to Walmart and Walmart driver Brian Smith winning first place in the Tanker class. Reddaway driver John Van Buren won first in the Straight Truck class.

The Oregon Trucking Associations held the championship June 16 in Portland.

3-Axle: Ronald Zieser, FedEx Freight

4-Axle: Heladio Fernandez, FedEx Freight

5-Axle: Kirby Ferber, FedEx Freight

Sleeper Berth: Chris Outen, FedEx Freight

Flatbed: Manuel Cruz, FedEx Freight

Step Van: Steve Chalupa, FedEx Express

Straight Truck: John Van Buren, Reddaway

Tanker: Brian Smith, Walmart Transportation

Twin Trailers: Jerry Lambert, FedEx Freight

Money Stop: Ronald Zeiser of FedEx Freight and Ray Miller of Old Dominion Freight Line
