Feeding America is expanding its food rescue program, MealConnects Logistics, nationally after a successful pilot run. The program connects carriers with food banks to repurpose food that may become commercially unsalable during the supply chain process but is still edible.
Feeding America launched the pilot program with General Mills last fall. The partnership has already led to the donation of over 580,000 pounds of food to Feeding America food banks.
Now, Feeding America is planning to build partnerships with manufacturers and carriers nationwide.
“This program is the definition of innovation,” said Feeding America Chief Supply Chain Officer Blake Thompson. “We’re rescuing food in an outside-the-box way and that means more meals on the plates of hungry Americans. Everybody wins.”
