Douglas Christianson, a Sparhawk Trucking driver from Saratoga, has been named the Wisconsin Motor Carriers Association’s Driver of the Year.

Christianson has logged over five million miles during his 44 years as a truck driver. He has spent the last 23 of those years with Sparhawk Trucking, which equates to about three million miles. Christianson told the Wisconsin Rapids Tribune that he maintains his safety record by always planning ahead.

“I’m constantly reading traffic,” he told the Tribune. “I’ve been out here so long that I typically can see what’s going to happen. That car rolling up to the stop sign? It will pull out in front of the truck. You can just tell.”

He was announced as Driver of the Year during the association’s annual Safety Awards Banquet on March 2.
