Interstate 49 was closed for several hours Friday afternoon, Sept. 27, after a three-vehicle crash ended with a tanker loaded with diesel caught fire.
The collision occurred at about 3:45 p.m.on I-49 near Red Bridge Road in south Kansas City.
According to Kansas City police, a southbound Ford Focus was driving erratically and struck the back of the tanker truck. The Ford also collided with a Jeep Wrangler, which then hit the right side of the tanker, the police said. The tanker caught fire, closing northbound and southbound lanes of I-49 for several hours.
Police did not report on the conditions of any of the drivers involved.
