Scott Cornell is the transportation business lead and crime and theft specialist at Travelers insurance company. As such, he knows what cargo thieves will be up to during the upcoming long Fourth of July holiday weekend.
Cornell also knows what members of the trucking industry, including drivers, can do to minimize the possibility of having cargo stolen. He cites statistics from CargoNet that show over the last five years, there has been a rise in theft incidents during the July 4th holiday. Cornell said there were 130 cargo thefts that accounted for just shy of $6 million in that span.
