Numerous tractor-trailers were involved in a massive chain-reaction pileup on Interstate 80 east of Des Moines Thursday, Feb. 4.
The collision, which involved some 40 vehicles, occurred in blizzard conditions at about noon and covered several miles of I-80 east of Des Moines near Newton.
Two Iowa State Troopers escaped serious injuries when a tanker rolled over onto their patrol cars.
No cause of the pileup has been determined as troopers continue their investigation. Eastbound lanes of I-80 were closed for several hours.
