A New York trucking company received a heavy fine and had its truck placed out of service for numerous size and wight violations earlier this week in Connecticut.
A statement from the Connecticut State Police said on Wednesday at about 7 a.m. troopers saw a tractor-trailer with an oversize load on secondary roads by passing the scales on Interstate 84 in Danbury.
Troopers stopped the tractor-trailer, and a resulting roadside investigation found the vehicle was in violation of several regulations.
Using portable scales, the troopers discovered the gross vehicle weight of the truck and its load was 183,300 pounds, which meant it was overweight by 103,300 pounds. The legal weight without special permits is 80,000 pounds.
The troopers' investigation also found:
- six out of the eight axles were not in compliance with the maximum allowed statute weight of 18,000 pounds per axle
- the vehicle was over height, over length and over width without a permit
- the carrier had no Connecticut Department of Transportation oversize permit
Because of the violations, the company was fined $39,101 and the vehicle was placed out of service.
The statement by the troopers did not identify the company involved.
