XPO Logistics driver Ina Daly had the highest overall score at the Arizona Truck Driving Championship out of over 175 drivers, earning her a back-to-back grand champion title.
Daly, from Avondale, has competed in the state championship 26 times and was also grand champion at last year’s competition. Daly will now advance to the 2019 National Truck Driving Championship in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, Aug. 14-17. This will mark her 15th time competing on the national level. In 2013, she won first place nationally in the tanker category.
“It’s fun and a way to show company pride but there’s a lot of takeaway from it. I’ve learned a ton,” Daly said about competing during a 2018 interview with She Drives Trucks. “I’m out here driving a truck and I want to be the best driver that I can be.”
Daly would like to see more women competing in the state and national-level trucking championships.
“I would like to tell them: Give it a try. You’re out here doing this job every day and don’t you want to be the best driver you can be?” Daly said. “It’s a perfect opportunity to learn more about the job you do and make you a better driver and give you, most importantly, a venue to feel a little pride in what you do and to meet some other like-minded drivers who show pride in their careers.”
