Over 400,000 Freightliner & Western Star trucks recalled

More than 400,000 Freightliner and Western Star trucks are being recalled due to a defect that could cause brake lights to not work. Another recall announced last week affects about 230 more Freightliner trucks.

Daimler Trucks North America, in its notification to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration, said 436,095 model year 2008-2018 Freightliner Cascadia and Western Star 4700, 4900, 5700 and 6900 model trucks manufactured between March 27, 2007, and Oct. 30, of this year are affected by the brake light recall. DTNA says after hard brake applications, the brake light pressure switch may not activate the brake lights with the light application of the brake pedal.

Daimler said it will begin notifying truck owners Jan. 25, and repair the affected trucks free of charge. Owners can contact DTNA customer service at 1-800-547-0712 with recall number FL-756. NHTSA’s recall number is 17V-761.

In another recall from DTNA, the company is recalling approximately 231 model year 2018 Freightliner Cascadia trucks equipped with Detroit automatic transmissions. In these trucks, a shift lock bolt in the transmission can seize, preventing the transmission from shifting out of gear range seven through 12.

Daimler will begin notifying owners Jan. 15, and dealers will inspect the transmissions and replace the bolt, if necessary, for free. Owners can contact DTNA customer service at 1-800-547-0712 with recall number FL-754. NHTSA’s recall number is 17V-730.
