Truckers, technicians and others lose jobs in changes by Kroger in AZ

More than 130 union truck drivers and some two dozen professional technicians in Tolleson, Arizona are expected to lose their jobs by the end of August after grocery store chain Kroger terminated its contract with its third-party transportation provider.

The Tolleson distribution center delivers goods to every Fry’s food store in Arizona. The drivers and technicians represented by Teamsters Local 104 work for Ruan Transportation, which handles deliveries and vehicle maintenance for Kroger-owned Fry’s and Smith’s stores.

Losing their jobs are 113 drivers and some 24 technicians.

Kroger selected Swift Transportation as its new logistics provider.
