A truck driver appears to have dodged more serious injuries or even death after a rock was thrown from an overpass in Monteagle, Tennessee north of Chattanooga Wednesday evening, Dec. 12.

Local police told WTVC-TV, two young men, including a juvenile, threw the rock at the 18-wheeler on Interstate 24 for “fun.” The incident occurred at about 8:30 p.m.

A truck driver is said to be recovering from cuts on her head and arm, and the young men were arrested shortly after the incident and charged with reckless endangerment.

Monteagle Police Chief Virgil McNeese said the rock bent the driver’s steering wheel, but that the driver was able to make it to the next exit ramp down the interstate. She was treated and released from the hospital.

Police used bootprints at the scene to locate the two suspects and make the arrests.

WTVC reports, “Chief McNeese tells NewsChannel 9 that if the rock had been thrown two seconds later, it would have hit the truck driver in the face, and she would have been dead.”
