Tractor-trailer fiery crash closes I-65; cops say truck's steer tire failed

The driver of a tractor-trailer was treated for non-life-threatening injuries over the weekend when the truck he was driving overturned and caught fire on Interstate 65 in Indiana.

I-65 at mile marker 238.8 was temporarily shut down because of the crash Saturday, May 17, according to Indiana State Police.

The tractor-trailer operated by UPS was northbound on I-65 just past a construction zone lane when the vehicle lost control, overturned, blocked the highway and caught fire.

A report by the state police shows that one of the truck’s steer tires failed suddenly, causing the accident. The driver was transported to a local hospital for treatment of non-life-threatening injuries.

ISP rerouted all northbound traffic at exit 230, and the highway reopened to traffic at about 5:30 p.m.
